Latex, PVC and Leather clothing and accessories

For a long time latex and PVC clothing have discreetly belonged to alternative lifestyle  enthusiasts, while leather has been the favourite outwear for bikers. But lately, leather, latex and PVC clothing are coming strong to mainstream fashion and becoming increasingly popular.

One of the reasons while latex and PVC clothing are coming out of the alternative scene to become high street mainstream wear is because celebrities have been sporting outfits in these materials not only for their public appearances but also for everyday wear as is the case of Lady Gaga who has been seen walking around the streets of London wearing latex and PVC clothes.

Latex clothing

Given the increasing popularity of Latex, mainstream media such as Maxim have portrayed Lady Gaga wearing clothing and accessories that previously only belonged to the alternative  scene. Between the two of them, they are bringing latex and PVC clothing into mainstream fashion.

Latex and rubber clothes are incredibly sexy, they are like a second skin.  Latex and PVC clothes and accessories are becoming widely spread to the point that now they are not limited to alternative shops. Nowadays you can find latex and PVC clothing in mainstream sites such as ebay and Amazon, even mainstream fashion designers are using these materials for their collections as was seen lately at London’s fashion week.

Lady Gaga and Alexander McQueen:

Lady Gaga loved Alexander MacQueen’s creative genius and she wore several of his designs for her Bad Romance video.

Look carefully at the Bad Romance video below and you will see that the little black dress Lady Gaga wears in the beginning, the gold origami dress and the reptilian sequined dress with a bubble skirt are all Alexander McQueen’s creations from his Spring 2010 collection. Also notice the sky high McQueen’s armadillo jewel incrusted shoes that she wears.

But this was not the first time that Lady Gaga and Alexander McQueen worked together.  For the cover of her "Dance In The Dark" single -pictured on the right- she was already wearing a gold covered shrug from Alexander McQueen's Fall 2007 collection to complement the looks of her fetish mask.

The Bad Romance video

The official video for Gaga's, "Bad Romance" is awesome, psychotic and above all, the high of fetish wear. The story behind the video is entertaining and amusing featuring Gaga being kidnapped by evil supermodels and sold to the mafia. The song is catchy, but what I like the most about Gaga’s video, are all the beautiful clothing and accessories that she wears. From the opening scene with white PVC suits and matching fingerless gloves and masks, to the beautiful dresses, bodysuits and the masks and gags worn by the men.

For those of you not familiar with the fetish scene, Atsuko Kudo is a leading designer of Couture Latex clothing, winner of the European Fetish Award for best fetish design 2008/2009. So now that you know Atsuko Kudo, guess what? When Lady Gaga met the Queen she wore an amazing red latex Atsuko Kudo dress especially designed for her performance at the 2009 Royal Variety Performance.

This lady is certainly bringing Latex Couture into mainstream wear and Royal circles.

Get the Lady Gaga look without being over the top

If you love the Lady Gaga outfits, but like me, you cannot afford or indeed dare to wear those beautiful designer dresses, there are lots of little details that you can incorporate in your wardrobe to get that sexy fetish look without looking over the top.

Add PVC or leather gloves for a funky, mysterious and sexy look

For example, look at the opening scene of the Bad Romance video, notice the fingerless white opera gloves. I have a pair of these fingerless PVC gloves in black, a present from a Dominatrix friend, they are perfect to add a touch of glamour and naughtiness to any outfit. I have worn mine on several occasions, from nightclubs to more formal appointments with great success. Just a glimpse of these gloves under my winter coat and people are already excited wondering what else I am wearing under my coat.

The white corset at the opening scene is also a good bet. You can wear it for clubbing or everyday use if you dress it down with a pair of jeans and a square jacket.

Latex boots and knee high leather boots are also GAGA

Another easy to implement accessory are the latex boots and the knee high boots in leather. You can wear these in black if you are aiming for a toned down look. Wear them with shorts for clubbing, over your skinny jeans for everyday use or with a dress for a night out in the city.

Why should you consider wearing latex and PVC clothing and accessories?

Because if you are bored of your usual outfits, now you can step into a world of fantasy wearing leather and latex just for fun.  A girl who dares wear latex is just saying through her outfit that she is confident enough to wear what she likes, that she is control of her body. Somehow through the use of latex and PVC clothing women can regain power. The world knows that if you are strong headed enough to wear latex and PVC clothing, no one can mess around with you.

The amazing queen of celibacy. A very interesting hub. Not exactly my favourite fashion...mind you it would depend who was wearing it. Thank you.

I never thought I would like wearing latex, vinyl or leather Peter, but once I tried them I couldn't go back to do without them! You should try either for you or your lady, you might be pleasantly surprised ;-)

How not to CM!

She does Isabelle, and she looks really hot wearing latex!

She certainly can stand out in a crowd. Not sure how practical that clothing would be in our 100 plus degree summers. Leather, vinyl and PVC will lead to rashes, chaffing and definite discomfort!! Great hub and thanks.

Maybe latex body painting would be a better option for a hot tropical weather Mardi...

I find her amazing prettydarkhorse!

I think it all depends where you wear it sweetKitten. I could see myself wearing most of those for a night out in one of my favourite London spots ;-)

she is just amazing but what i love the most is the message she is sending growing girls-that its ok to be yourself and it doesnt matter what others think

those that laugh at her only see costumes and individuality, which seems hard to swallow for some-jealousy of that self confidence maybe?

who knows

she's inspiring to me

thanks kimberly

Her dressing sense is getting more and more ridiculous by the day. Looking st her, Rihanna also seems to be getting more obnoxious. Just found an article with her transformation from a cure little girl to a complete slutty sell-out.
